Perilous gravestones
A remarkable percentage of these gravestones in the newest part of Carlton Cemetery have had to be propped up to prevent them falling over. The problem appears to stem from two causes; firstly the lack of stabilisation of the ground below the stones, and secondly that the upright stones are not sunk into the ground. A slight tilt of the base will be sufficient to cause the headstone to topple.
