Standhill Road
Looking along this street from Carlton Hill. Typical terraced housing from around the end of the 19th century. The planter is part of the modernisation of the local shopping area.

Carlton Hill, Christmas Day
Probably the only day of the year when you will see it as empty as this in the middle of the day.

Brick Kiln Way
This footpath leads down to the housing development which can be seen immediately above the railings. This sunken area was formerly completely occupied by a brickworks which has completely removed the hillside. The name of the path retains the link to the former industry

Bus stopped
Unfortunately not at the bus stop. It had broken down and was going nowhere, possibly overheated on a very warm day. Whatever, there were a lot more overheating vehicles and passengers being delayed in the resultant jam.

Carlton Hill Post Office postbox ref NG4 191
The Post Office used to be a couple of blocks further east, but moved into the convenience store about 3 years ago. There was a pillar box outside that location which remained there for a few months before disappearing, without a replacement near the new Post Office. It seems that there was a problem with the location of underground services which meant that it was found to be impossible to install the pillar box. Some 2 years later, a lampbox has finally appeared outside the Post Office. The small box is symptomatic of the greatly reduced volume of mail now being posted in postboxes.

Boundary pillar 1877
Another of the fine cast iron boundary posts of the then Borough of Nottingham. It makes an interesting contrast with the modern style of marking the boundary Image The road name changes here as well.
