Nottingham, NG3 - Former Forest House
The bay-windowed wing on the right was once part of the home of Sir Thomas Isaac Birkin, of the local lace-making dynasty. When he moved to Ruddington in 1905, having been created 1st Baronet of Ruddington Grange, he gave the away the house and grounds for conversion into a Children's Hospital. In 1939 John Dane Player, of the tobacco family, funded substantial extension work and it continued to function as a paediatric hospital until the early 1980s. After this, it became the HQ of Nottinghamshire Area Health Authority and later the base of Nottingham Health Authority. It is now owned by an Islamic Trust. This is a view from inside the Berkeley Ave entrance/exit gates.
