The village school at Little Bytham, near Bourne, Lincolnshire
The school at Little Bytham opened in 1878 and is still in use today as the Bythams County Primary School. Although extensively modernised, the original bell-cote that summoned generations of children to their lessons remains with the separate doors at either end of the building marked GIRLS on the left and BOYS on the right, a reminder of those days when pupils were segregated.
