The Charles Read Academy
Built in 1963 as a 'Secondary Modern' school, and becoming a comprehensive after the 1965 Labour government attempted to end selection. In 1999 it was renamed the Charles Read High School,taking the name from the ancient grammar school in the village (Image)
It converted to an academy in January 2011 and was taken over by West Grantham Academies Trust. This body decided to close the school in 2013, raising many questions about how they had come to own the freehold, and after a considerable local storm control was passed to the Stamford-based David Ross Foundation instead of closing.

Willoughby Memorial Library at Corby Glen, near Bourne, Lincolnshire
This imposing building in the middle of Corn Glen village began life as Read's Grammar School, founded in 1669 by a Nottingham merchant for the instruction of local children, but closed in 1909 and has since been restored as the Willoughby Memorial Library and Art Gallery which opened in 1965 in memory of Timothy, Lord Willoughby de Eresby (born 1936), son and heir of the Earl and Countess of Ancaster, of Grimsthorpe Castle, who was lost in a storm while boating in the Mediterranean between Cap Ferrat and Corsica on 20th August 1963.
