Disused Lock on The Grantham Canal
This shows a family of swans swimming at the southern entrance to the lock. This short stretch of the canal provides a home to 2 swan families and 2 or 3 families of mallards in the summer of 2008.

Third lock from the Trent
The derelict and gateless Gamston Lock on the abandoned Grantham Canal, seen from the footbridge on an oppressive midsummer evening. The canal, opened in 1797, was abandoned in 1936.

Gamston Lock, #3 on the Grantham Canal
The canal runs for 33 miles between Grantham and the River Trent at West Bridgford. The canal, which opened in 1797 and was abandoned in 1936, is now mostly derelict. The canal had 18 locks, most of which have been demolished. Since the 1970s, the Grantham Canal Society have been working towards restoring the canal, and two stretches are now navigable.

Near Gamston Lock
