Houses off Tutt Close, Fernwood
The three buildings farthest away from the camera are former staff houses for Balderton Hospital. The hospital opened in 1957 and closed in 1993. It provided care and support for children and adults with learning disabilities.
The Eastdale Unit which provided rehabilitation care for patients from Special Hospitals (especially that at Rampton) stood close to where the photograph was taken.

Ukrainian flags at the entrance to Spring Drive
The houses on Spring Drive were formerly staff housing for Balderton Hospital. Spring Drive is not integrated into the plan of the Fernwood Estate.

Fernwood Day Nursery
This and the Village Hall are as yet the only community buildings in Fernwood. A school is planned and part of it is due to open in 2012.

Balderton Hall
Built in 1840 for local banker Thomas Spragging Godfrey, it served as a family home until 1936 when work started on building a hospital in the parkland. It was officer's accommodation for RAF Balderton during the war and in October 1957 it became the administrative block of the hospital for patients with learning disabilities until it closed in 1993.
It is currently offices in a large development of over 1,000 new homes on the former hospital site.
