Hawton Works
The building is the last remnant of the former Hawton Gypsum works. It survived as a listed building largely on the basis of the completeness of the machinery. Sadly arson and metal theft have completely disposed of all the interesting equipment leaving an empty shell. Listed Grade II.

The rather squalid urban fringe of Newark. The area has been subjected to gypsum mining and processing for almost two hundred years though there are no longer any active workings in the immediate vicinity.
