Polish War Section Of Newark Cemetery
Several hundred Polish servicemen are buried here in Newark cemetery. Up until 1993 so was their leader General Sikorski.

Statue of General Wladyslaw Sikorski
Designed by Andrew Lilley. Unveiled on 4th July 2023, the 80th anniversary of his death. Sikorski was buried in the cemetery in Newark but his remains were transferred to Krakow in 1993. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W%C5%82adys%C5%82aw_Sikorski

Polish servicemen cemetery
During the Second World War there were several RAF stations near Newark, many of which operated squadrons of the Polish Air Force. This special plot in Newark Cemetery was set aside for Polish airmen and contains 397 graves.
