Just a corner
This is just one corner of the Market Square, but it is stuffed with history.
Ignoring the half-timbered inn and the shops on the left, or even the pedimented building of 1830 in the corner - all of which are listed buildings, we can see:

Queen's Head, 8 and 9 Market Place, Newark
Grade II Listed early 16th century house restored 1960 and in the 1970s. Historically The Queens Head it was named Hobgoblin for a relatively short period until the owners changed the name back following a Police raid and threat of closure in 2009. The Folklore of British Pub Names tells us that Hobgoblin was the name of a number of Wychwood Brewery (a subsidiary of Marston's) pubs named after their Hobgoblin ale. Searching my directories I find; 1791 a number of victuallers are listed some with pub names, but no Queen's Head; 1828 John Allen (probably Allin); 1832-1841 John Allin; 1855 James Allin (& painter); 1876 Richard Wright; 1885 Mrs Mary Wright; 1891-1904 Fred William Whitby.

Newark Market Place, north west corner
The building to the right was built as a subscription library c.1830 and was, until 2023, a Wetherspoon pub, the Sir John Arderne. Listed Grade II.
The timber framed building to the left is the early 16th century Queens Head Inn, also Listed Grade II.
