The current location is not quite as imposing as the old one http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/3116399, but of course the separation of Royal Mail means that the requirements are less. The postbox is NG24 4XE – Morrisons | Paxton Court, (EIIR Royal Mail pillar box), the designation of which doubtless pre-dates the move of the Post Office to its current location (which is in Paxton's Court)

At one time this would have been on the edge of the town and its name gives away its purpose. Now it is a pedestrianised street serving Morrison's supermarket and other smaller businesses.

Grade II Listed as mid 18th century house and inn and it is listed as the Old Kings Arms at least as early as 1828. I can't see it in 1791 but it may be just a beerhouse and probably not named. It was the first pub of Tynemill Limited (Castle Rock Brewery) established in 1977 and described then as 'closed for many years'. Old King's Arms leaves the Tynemill estate in 1994. Admiral Taverns appears in 2013 in association with the pub that then has more than one short lived company registered to the address. A search of my directories found it was at 10 Kirkgate and, presumably, re-numbered to 19 between 1892 and 1904. Landlords listed include; 1828 John Lacy; 1832 S Horspool; 1835-1855 George Surgey (1855 also '& boot & shoe ma.'); 1876 John Esam; 1885 Joseph Grocock; 1891 Arthur Shaw Robotham; 1892 W J Lissett; 1904 Harry Attenborough.

The archway leads through to one of the many narrow through courts between streets in Newark. The Post Office is in the court http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/3123333 , rather than occupying the building shown. The archway is under part of the Old King's Arms P.H., which together with the building housing the shop to the left is Listed Grade II. Note the 'fake' windows intended to reduce liability for Window Tax but maintaining the visual impact of the building.

There is an OS benchmark Image on the wall of JHCS Computer Specialists shop left of its door and a black bollard. There is a depot yard to the rear of the shop accessed through the archway

A slight tailback on Bar Gate as this authentic looking bow top gypsy caravan approaches Castle Gate roundabout. The Wharf, a short cut between Bar Gate and Beast Market Hill - that passes the rear of "The Ossington" (the former Coffee Palace & Temperance Hotel replica) - can be seen behind the horse's head.
