Meadow Lane: Notts County v Chesterfield
Twelve minutes into this televised Saturday-evening National League (division five) encounter between two fancied sides, there was no score and an over-hit through ball was being collected by the visitors' goalkeeper. The 1,886 Chesterfield fans in the Jimmy Sirrel Stand opposite were in full voice as the Spireites (in blue) were on top. They took a 2-0 lead, but after a spirited second-half fightback by the Magpies the match ended 2-2 - a fair result in front of 8,287 spectators.

Notts County Official Club Store
Notts County has long been regarded as the poor relation of Nottingham Forest, whose City Ground is just across the river, but it has always had a loyal following in the city. Today the club plays in the National League but it is the oldest professional association football club in the world; its formation predated the Football Association. Meadow Lane has been its home since 1910 and there is the inevitable club shop selling replica kit and souvenirs.
