Church of St Swithin, Wellow - tower detail
Above is a gargoyle of the 15th century. The dentilled string course below includes a human head on the corner and one corbel to the right that may be a stylised animal head, not untypical of 12th and 13th century work.

Difficult to see well in the light conditions with the sun shining low and straight onto it. See http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/4024672 for location.

View from the south aisle into the nave. 14th century arcade; the small lancet in the north wall is 13th century.
The south aisle windows were allowing enough natural light into this part of the church to provide some normal colour compared with the nave where the unusual red colour from the lamps predominated.

Church of St Swithin, Wellow - Millennium window
This window was created as a millennium project in 2000. It uses the village maypole as a base for Christian symbolism, sprouting branches to represent variously the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, the Tree of The Cross, and the Tree of Life. (It would have been better illustrated from inside, but the church was not open when I was there!)

Church of St Swithin, Wellow
The oldest part of the church, the base of the tower, is 12th century, the upper stages being 13th and 15th century work. The nave is largely 14th century, the chancel being a 19th century creation. The porch is thought to date from the same rebuilding as the chancel. The offset tower is a relatively unusual feature. Listed Grade II*.

There is a bench mark http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/4024670 on the west facing buttress on the near corner of the tower.

The nave looking east. The nave and arcade are principally 14th century although there is some earlier masonry, the church having Norman origins. The font is 19th century. Listed Grade II*.
Converted to grayscale as the church was lit by red lamps creating an unnatural colour balance.
