Pleasley - Lakeside Health & Leisure Club
The stone-built part of this club looks like it was once a chapel. Earlier editions of the OS One-Inch map show a place of worship here.

Meden Mill
The 18th century watermill was demolished in the 1950s but the steam mill survives. A steam mill was required as two mills further upstream often took too much water. The sluices and gates are grade II listed. See also Image]

Meden Square is seen here from the grassed embankment in front of a row of houses situated on Meden Close. The road on the left is Crow Hill and it carries traffic up and down onto this elevated area of land. The parade of shops and houses beyond the lych-gate style bus shelter is a section of the "old" Chesterfield Road. The pink fronted shop is the former post office, now an antique shop.

Meden Mill from the opposite river bank. Originally it was a typical C17th village corn mill with an overshot wheel. The mill was built of stone and oak with a pantile roof. Silt from Pleasley Colliery prevented the mill from working and in 1960 the mill owners decided to demolish the structure, filling the undercrofts with the demolition material. Much more recently (date unknown) Bench Architects of Buxton obtained planning consent to reconstruct it as a dwelling and the restored mill acted as a catalyst for Derbyshire County Council to grant-aid the relandscaping of the village green adjacent to the mill-pond sluice gates.

Meden Square is actually triangular in shape. This lych-gate style bus shelter on the "old" Chesterfield Road also serves "park" users. The nearby A617 dual carriageway now carries most of the traffic between Mansfield-Chesterfield. The pink fronted shop is the former post office, now an "antiques and collectibles" shop.
