Mansfield, Notts.
The Grade II-listed Parish church of St John the Evangelist with St Mary is seen here from inside a gateway at the commencement of the path on St John’s Street, leading to its porch. The church was designed by Henry Isaac Stevens and built in 1855-56, although the north porch is dated to 1906. The church was built in Gothic Revival style by Charles Lindley of Mansfield and was paid for - in the main - by Henry Gally Knight, F.R.S. (1786-1846), M.P., traveller and author, who wrote “Ecclesiastical Architecture of Italy”.
