Church of St Mary Magdalene
The parish church of Sutton-in-Ashfield sits in very large grounds and cemetery. An original plain Norman church stood on this site, dated perhaps around 1115. Much of the church we see today was constructed in the 15th century in the Perpendicular style. In 1854 the chancel was restored by the Duke of Portland and in 1868 the nave was restored by the vicar Charles Bellairs. The tower contains eight bells - three ancient dating from the 15th and 16th centuries, three commemorating the First World War and two commemorating the Second World War.
