Sutton-in-Ashfield - solicitors' offices in northern corner of Market Place
This is No 1 Low Street and is occupied by Fidler & Pepper. The building has the look of a bank, but I have been unable to find out which one. Lindley's 1907 History of Sutton-in-Ashfield (http://www.nottshistory.org.uk/suttoninashfield1907/sutton10.htm ) mentions three banks having their premises in the Albert Square / Market Place / Low Street area. These were the Nottingham & Nottinghamshire Bank, Crompton & Evans Bank and Union of London & Smiths Bank.

Sutton-in-Ashfield - Denmans Head
This former Home Brewery Co Ltd public house on Market Place has been converted to a Costa coffee house since this photo was taken. The name of Denmans Head has the following history (see http://www.nottshistory.org.uk/suttoninashfield1907/sutton3.htm ). "This old inn was, previous to A.D. 1820, known as the "King's Head," but on the trial of Queen Caroline, the then landlord, W. Cooper, was so much delighted with her defence by Mr. Denman (who was afterwards Lord Justice Denman) that he changed the name to the "Denman's Head" in his honour. The whole country was much excited over this trial and, on her acquittal, London was illuminated for three days. This Mr. Cooper was the father of the well-known, handsome, and highly respected surgeon of Mansfield, who was for many years its leading medical practitioner, and who was known all the district round as Dr. Cooper."

Sutton-in-Ashfield - The Picture House
This Wetherspoon pub was built as the King's Cinema in 1932. A casualty of the general decline in cinema use in the 1960s, King's Cinema closed down in 1967. Within a few weeks, it reopened to a full house as the Star Bingo and Social Club. The bingo hall survived into the 1990s, and, more recently, was used as the Picture House Night Club. The building re-opened as a Wetherspoon pub on 22 Feb 2000. The above information obtained from http://www.jdwetherspoon.co.uk/home/pubs/the-picture-house-sutton-in-ashfield . For more information, please see http://cinematreasures.org/theaters/24493 .Wetherspoon have recently converted a former cinema to a pub in neighbouring Kirkby-in-Ashfield - see
