Nottingham - NG1 (Castle Gate).
Castle Gate was chopped in two by the construction of a dual carriageway known as Maid Marian Way (A6008). This is a view of some of the houses on its northern side, near to the castle, taken from Newdigate House (circa 1675). This house – inside the wrought iron railings - is frequently referred to as Marshal Tallard's house due to the fact that this French general lived here in captivity for 6 years after his defeat by the Duke of Marlborough at the battle of Blenheim (1704). Nottingham's Museum of Costume and Textiles was once housed in a nearby property, although this has now ceased to exist.
