Hucknall - Nottinghamshire
A prominent feature on this road, a side road that joins Watnall Road in the distance, is the Hucknall & District Orthopaedic Clinic. It was built in 1929 on land donated by Sir Julien Cahn (1882-1944) the entrepreneur, philanthropist and cricket supporter who later became the 1st Baronet of Stanford-upon-Soar. It was set up for the benefit of Hucknall residents with funds raised by public subscription and it still houses NHS physiotherapy services for patients from Hucknall and its catchment area, one that includes Bulwell and Eastwood. In 1931, having purchased Newstead Abbey, Byron's former home, he donated it to Nottingham Corporation. At one point Cahn lived in Papplewick, a village just a few miles from Hucknall.

West Terrace
An interesting mixture of architectural styles showing that the street was developed piecemeal. One of the earliest developments for colliery workers, probably dating from the 1870s.

Flight of Fancy
Not my title - this is the correct name of this modern sculpture in Hucknall Market Place.
Created by artist Liz Lemon, it is designed to reflect Hucknall's industrial heritage, with other references to lacemaking and Ada Lovelace, the daughter of Lord Byron, credited with designing the precursor to the modern computer. The crown is formed from the mixer from a Rolls Royce Tay jet engine emphasising the local contribution that Rolls Royce's factory makes to the local economy.
