The last remains
These stumps of steelwork are all that remains of the remaining headframe of the former Annesley Colliery. Although it could have remained as a witness to what was the major industry in the area, the developer was much more interested in being able to get a couple or so more houses onto the site, and efforts to save it were unavailing.

Newstead Village NG15, Notts.
Terraced housing in the Tilford Road area. Newstead Colliery Village, as it was once known, was created for workers employed by Newstead Colliery whose pits operated between 1874-1987. Part of the area has been redeveloped into a nature reserve and business park. This picture was taken from a grassy hill adjacent to the village's former chapel, premises that are currently being used by an electrical motor repairing firm. The stationary cars are parked in the former church car park.
