Shakespeare Street on a wet morning
Looking towards Mansfield Road and the clock tower which is all that remains of the former Victoria Station (1899-1968). The station site is now a shopping centre.

"Demise of Mechanics Institute"
Recreating this 'First' for the square http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/35543 .
Obviously the title of the original caught a transient moment in the redevelopment of the area, which has changed out of all recognition. The only link to the old view is the street layout and the older building which can be seen between the trees right on the left edge of my picture.

Building in Art Deco style by Cecil Howitt (architect of Nottingham Council House) of 1937, still serving its original function as a community centre and accommodation for young people. Listed Grade II.

Nottingham Central Police Station
The headquarters of the former Nottingham City Police was built in 1938 and had closed its doors for the last time a few days before this picture was taken on a cloudy April morning. My father was based here as Chief Superintendent of the force's Central Division in the 1960s, so I wanted to take a picture before the building is converted to student accommodation.
