Down iron ore train entering Nottingham Victoria
View southward, towards Leicester, Woodford Halse and Banbury/London on ex-GC main line, also Grantham on ex-GN line. The Class 9 train is probably coming from the Denton or Harlaxton outcrops via Belvoir Junction and is bound for either Stanton Ironworks via the GN line and Kimberley or Staveley Works via the GC line: it is headed by Thompson Class O1 2-8-0(rebuilt 12/45 from ex-GC O4). Nottingham Victoria: a southbound train, 1959
B1 Class 61251 "Oliver Bury" about to depart from Platform 7. The engine's shedplate, 34F, shows it was at that time based at Grantham. Above the locomotive is the station's huge overall roof and to the left of it, at road level, the rear of the Victoria Station Hotel (as it then was) and the distinctive clock tower, which is all that remains of Victoria Station. The Victoria shopping centre now occupies the site, with underground car parks at what from 1899-1968 was platform level. I hope historical interest may make up for the poor quality of this scan of a Kodak Brownie print taken when I was eleven.

John Lewis, Nottingham
On a rainy and cold day thankfully there is always a John Lewis - warm, full of things to browse and a safe, idealistic bubble in which to escape reality.

Milton Street
Sunday morning - one taxi, one bus! Normally taking a photograph in the middle of this street would be foolhardy.

The iconic Emett Clock has disappeared
The notices however reassure visitors and shoppers that it will reappear after refurbishment and exhibition at Millennium Point in Birmingham. On return it will be sited elsewhere in the Victoria Centre to allow this space to be used for events as part of a refurbishment of the Centre.
