Milton Street, Nottingham, NG1
Some demolition and refurbishment work in the vicinity of the Victoria Centre is visible here from the Trinity Square multi-storey car park. The Grade II-listed former station clock tower dates from c.1900. The tower was designed by A.E.Lambert for the Great Central Railway Company as part of the former Nottingham Victoria railway station. The station was demolished in 1967 but the tower and the present Hilton Hotel were preserved. The Victoria Centre was built in 1967-72. In February 2013 the parent company, Capital Shopping Centres, changed its name to "Intu Properties plc" and the centre was renamed the "Intu Victoria Centre" as part of the company's £25m nationwide re-branding exercise.

Nottingham - NG1 (Victoria Centre)
An unfortunate lack of harmony in this area of Milton Street as the clock tower of the old Victoria Station (circa 1898), the Victoria Centre retail development plus flats and offices (1967-72,) together with the new tower block to the right of them, conspire together in an attempt to win a prize as one of the drabbest parts of Nottingham city centre. This picture was taken from one of upper floors of the Trinity Square multi-storey car park opposite.

Nottingham Victoria Station, with an Up ore empties
View northward, towards Sheffield on the ex-Great Central main line, also Derby on the ex-Great Northern. The Up iron ore empties train is probably from Stanton Ironworks and heading for the ironfields south of Grantham: the locomotive is a Thompson O4/8 2-8-0 No. 63873. On the right is a local for Grantham with a Stanier 2-6-4T.

Sunday morning - one taxi, one bus! Normally taking a photograph in the middle of this street would be foolhardy.

Down iron ore train entering Nottingham Victoria
View southward, towards Leicester, Woodford Halse and Banbury/London on ex-GC main line, also Grantham on ex-GN line. The Class 9 train is probably coming from the Denton or Harlaxton outcrops via Belvoir Junction and is bound for either Stanton Ironworks via the GN line and Kimberley or Staveley Works via the GC line: it is headed by Thompson Class O1 2-8-0(rebuilt 12/45 from ex-GC O4).
