Former bank on Thurland Street
A relatively early work by the Nottingham architect Watson Fothergill ( at that stage still using his proper name, Fothergill Watson) predating his distinctive use of red brick. However, his trademark polychrome banding and oriel windows are already evident.

Bank building tower
By the Nottingham architect Watson Fothergill. An early work, predating is distinctive use of red brick with stone banding. His trademark banding of contrasting colour is already in evidence, as also the half timbering in the upper stages of the tower.

Closed Jessops
Clumber Street. Jessops have been at this site in Nottingham for two years or so. Previously to that they were at the north end of Market Street. The entire Jessops chain closed their doors for the last time yesterday.

Detail of 11 Clumber Street, Nottingham
The flamboyant green-tiled front belongs to a remodelling of 1910 by Frederick Ball. Behind, it dates back to c1730. Grade II listed. Originally the White Lion, later the Lion Hotel, now an amusement centre.

Watson Fothergill: capital in the former Nottingham & Notts Bank
This grand building on Thurland Street - see Image] and others - is now a clothing shop. The combination of classical acanthus and Gothic grotesque carving is typical of Fothergill's eclectic style.
