A view of Broad Street, Hockley taken from the Carlton St/Goose Gate end. A row of retail outlets and the Broadway cinema are obvious but also visible is "The Health Shop" that occupies the grey and cream coloured building (centre right). This one-stop centre that still offers sexual health & reproductive health advice and testing plus a needle exchange service was a pioneering venture that started in the 70s when other more traditional providers were proving particularly slow at providing walk-in facilities for sexually active young people.

George Street
The red-faced building on the left is the Nottingham (once the Co-op) Arts Theatre, originally a Baptist Chapel of 1815, by Edward Staveley. In the wake of the Catholic Relief Acts, Nottingham Catholics were quick off the mark with the stone-fronted classical Roman Catholic Chapel of 1825-8, by Edward Willson of Lincoln, further along the street. The photograph is taken from the front of Watson Fothergill's offices, looking towards Carlton Street and The Lace Market beyond.
