The Exchange Arcade, Nottingham
A view of the Exchange Arcade taken from the High St entrance. The Exchange Buildings were built between 1927-29 as part of a major civic building project which included the Council House. The Exchange, Nottingham’s first "shopping centre", was opened on 22nd May 1929 by the Prince of Wales (later Edward VIII). The Exchange is situated within The Council House, an elegant and imposing Grade II* listed building in the neo-baroque style, housing a magnificent 200 ft high dome. It occupies a dominant position overlooking Nottingham's Old Market Square.

Yorkshire Bank Nottingham
The upper facade shows this to be a former National Provincial Banking branch and bears a date of 1927. Designed by the architect Albert Nelson Bromley. Whilst it appears to part of the Council House it is in fact entirely separate.

Exchange Shopping Arcade, Nottingham
I believe this Arcade was opened in 1929 and it puts some of the 'shopping meccas' of the 1970's to shame!
