Edwalton: the Hind Almshouses
These almshouses were built in 1927 by Oliver Hind of Edwalton Hall. Plaques either side of the gate record that they were built in memory of his parents and of his brother, Lt Col Lawrence Hind MC, killed leading his battalion on the first day of The Somme, and a nephew, Lt Jesse Hind, wounded at Gallipoli and killed at Thiepval on The Somme.

Edwalton: the gate of the Hind Almshouses

Edwalton: former post office
"Part of West Bridgford. Modern housing has completely submerged the old village," wrote Nikolaus Pevsner. The Old Post Office - typical South Notts village cottages - is one of the few surviving village buildings. The photograph was taken on a damp September morning.

Old Post Office, Edwalton
Since Alan took Image the leaves on the cottage have fallen, revealing a plaque which names the building as "The Old Post Office". Presumably it used to be a Post Office.
