Birkin Building passageway ? plaque and Norman window
The plaque represents the arms of the Plumtre family; Plumtre House was demolished in 1853 to make way for the new building, and the presumption is that the plaque came from the house.
The 12th century window is reputed to have come from the old St Mary's Church. This was demolished c.1400 when the present church was built, so it is interesting to speculate how it survived the 450 years between. It seems likely that it had been incorporated into the Plumtre property.

Kayes Walk is an early C19th stone-paved footway on the northern side of St Mary's grave yard linking Stoney Street with St Mary's Gate in the Lace Market quarter. This thoroughfare is named after a former archdeacon, the Rev. Sir Richard Kaye, who died in 1809.
