Adams Building, Stoney Street, Nottingham
The splendid front of the building which Pevsner thinks might be "the masterpiece" of Thomas Chambers Hine. It displays his usual attractive mixing of brick and stone in an Italianate style, and there is much good detail to catch the eye. E-shaped, the projecting entrance grandly faced almost entirely in Ancaster stone. It was built as a lace warehouse and showrooms in 1854-55 for Page & Co (and extended by Hine in 1865 Image]). Grade II* listed. New College Nottingham won an award for its restoration of the building in the late 1990s.
