Himalayan Balsam (impatiens glandulifera)
Seen beside the river Trent at Attenborough. Himalayan Balsam was introduced to Europe from the Himalaya in the 19th century. It has now become a widespread and invasive pest along river banks. The long fruit capsules explode violently when ripe, scattering the seeds some distance from the plant.

Restoration of Dunkirk little ship Lady Sylvia
The Lady Sylvia started life as the Sylvia in 1930. She was based in Ramsgate in 1940 when she was involved in the evacuation from Dunkirk. She survived strafing and being set on fire to make two successful trips to the beaches.

New sluice gates
The new mouth for the River Erewash. Built as part of the Environment Agency's flood relief project between Sawley and Beeston. This will also reduce the contamination of Coneries Lake with nitrates and phosphates from the river.
