Built to serve the industries of the Erewash Valley, it was an outlet also for the Butterley Canal. It is still navigable as far as Langley Mill

Built in 1883 for T Hooley & Co, this is a fine double-fronted mill with a central panel in contrasting brickwork. It has been sensitively converted into loft apartments

Springfield Mill, Sandiacre, Derbys.
A view of this Grade II-listed former mill from the towpath, looking towards the town centre. The mill was built in 1888 as a tenanted lace factory, for Terah Hooley a wealthy local industrialist, by the architect John Sheldon of Long Eaton. It now houses 105 residential units.
