Moorings on the Sawley Cut south of Long Eaton
Looking west (upstream) the wide 1200 metre long Sawley Cut enables the navigation to bypass the Sawley Weir and a meander in the River Trent, south of Long Eaton. In this image, a standard narrow boat "Eider Duck"(beam just under seven feet) is moored by a wide beam (probably about 10ft 4in) canal boat, "Tick Tock".

River/Canal maintenance boat on the Sawley Cut
This maintenance tug boat in British Waterways colours is wide beam (about 11ft 6in - 3·5m), so cannot negotiate the narrow locks on most of the canal system. Before 2010(?) it was painted turqoise and dark yellow-orange; before that it was longer and not a tug; research needed. There is a sister boat called Neptune, also converted.
