Reaching for the Stars
Bronze sculpture by Kenneth Armitage, 2002, in passage between South Street and Orchard Street. His final work - a monumental 30ft work - it reflects Armitage's original aspiration: "if you reach for the stars you might reach the rooftops"

'Reaching for the Stars' by Kenneth Armitage, Stephenson's Lane
A bronze sculpture by Kenneth Armitage http://www.sculpture.org.uk/artists/KennethArmitage/ of a hand stretched upwards in the narrow lane at the back of Central Square. It was commissioned by Parabola Estates as part of the Central Square developments which began the regeneration of the Stephenson Quarter
behind Newcastle Central Station in 2002. Stephenson's Lane runs between Orchard Street and South Street.
