Across the River Tyne from Gateshead to Newcastle, 1954
View NE from Gateshead Locomotive Works, to the High Level Bridge. This Bridge (railway above, road below) cuts across from St Nicholas Church on the left to the City Church on the right and the Castle Keep in the middle. Central Station is hidden behind the factories on Forth Street and Forth Banks on the Newcastle riverside. This was all before another bridge was built and almost all is different nowadays.

'Goats', Gateshead Riverside Park
A herd of recycled metal goats by Sally Matthews (1992) forage in the woods of Rabbit Banks above Pipwellgate. One possible derivation of the place-name, Gateshead, is 'where goats once grazed on the headland'. There was once a Goat Inn on Bottle Bank.

Another of the public artworks in Gateshead Riverside Park* the goats, by Sally Matthews (1992) are "made from recycled materials and appear to be climbing and foraging in the vegetation".
