Weather Vane, Windmill Hills Park
'Wind Vane' is an art work by Richard Woods installed in 2001 providing a memory of the many windmills that once stood on the hilltop above the Tyne where they were well situated to catch the wind http://www.bbc.co.uk/arts/yourpaintings/paintings/the-tyne-from-windmill-hills-gateshead-37149 The cardinal points of the compass are shown as words cut-out in the metal plates of the base. 18th Century Houses Newcastle upon Tyne
There were a number of 18th C houses behind the Quayside. The best known of which was Bessie Surtees House. This shows the back of one of the houses. The south side of the Tyne bridge is in the background.
