Former gateway to Middleton Hall
This ornate gateway and lodge once marked the start of the drive to Middleton Hall. Surprisingly (I think) neither the gateway itself nor the lodge appear to be listed despite their interesting appearance.

Swallow approaching nest
The nest is between the stone corbels below and to the right of the crest.
The swallow approaches and its shadow falls on the wall lower down.
The Leather Family Crest, of Gerard Frederick Towlerton, of Middleton Hall, Northumberland, and Leventhorpe Hall, Yorkshirehire reads:
Nil nisi quod honestum
Nothing unless what is honourable

Lodge and gateway near Belford
Lodge and somewhat over-the-top gateway to Middleton Hall. Perhaps dating from around 1871 when David Brandon designed the house. Neo-Tudor and of rock-faced stone with paler stone dressings. The gateway has crenellations and machicolations, no doubt so that the Victorian owner could imagine himself a medieval knight besieged by Picts or similar assailants.
The sign advertises a development opportunity comprising various estate buildings.
