Harwood is a tiny village (perhaps more properly described as a hamlet) within Harwood Forest. A postbox and telephone box constitute the sum total of community services. The telephone box has since been removed (information at 2017).

St Oswald's Way at Harwood
St Oswald's Way http://www.stoswaldsway.com/home.html is a 156 Km long trail which runs from Heavenfield near Hexham to Holy Island on the Northumberland coast (although more commonly walked in the opposite direction). The Way traverses the length of Harwood Forest from south to north, here seen approaching Harwood village.
