Morpeth railway station, Northumberland, 2010
Opened in 1847 by the Newcastle & Berwick Railway, later part of the North Eastern Railway. View north east towards Pegswood and Berwick-upon-Tweed. A few years later, the station was refurbished and passenger lifts were installed - see Image for a 2022 view from a similar camera position. After 1880 this was also a junction (to the right, beyond the station) for the Blyth & Tyne Railway to Bedlington. (The crowds were waiting for an excursion train over the "B&T" - it's not normally this busy!). The former B&T station is still extant - see Image

Morpeth Station chimneys
A closer look at the new chimneys at Morpeth Railway Station. It was designed and built in Tudor - Gothic style by Benjamin Green in 1847. The station was renovated in 2019; a very fine job including new waiting room, ticket office, etc. Perhaps the most striking change is the restoration of the 15 chimneys to their original extravagant height - compare other photos of it from years past on Geograph. The building is Grade II listed. See also https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-east-news/gallery/morpeth-railway-station-given-new-18899297
