Abbey Well
The Abbey Well lies in the clump of trees in the middle distance. It comprises a generally boggy area with two or three well defined springs. They coalesce to form a substantial stream which joins the Wansbeck a short distance away.

Star Jelly
They looked like slush balls at first glance but a closer examination revealed them to be gelatinous. Although there are theories of meteoric origin for these curious 2cm diameter spheres the generally accepted view seems to be that they are frog spawn, regurgitated by herons etc., as a part of a frog that is unpalatable. Not that uncommon apparently.
