Pub on Shaftoe Street, Haydon Bridge in 1979
The photographer's record has this building as being the Haydon Hotel but an internet search suggests that it was the Scotch Arms. Whichever it was, it is no more; the building has been converted to a dwelling. The adjacent building, Watson's Garage, has also been renovated as can be seen in Steven Craven's image of March 2020 - https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/6421510.

The stripey bikes of Haydon Bridge (1)
Haydon Bridge is one of the villages on the route of the Aviva Tour of Britain 2015. Stage 5 on September 10th runs from the start at Prudhoe in the Tyne Valley to the finish at the top of Hartside Pass. Like many communities along the way, Haydon Bridge is regarding the event as cause for a major celebration, and like many other villages has set out to adorn the route with painted bicycles; there at least fifteen dotted around the village. Although the traditional colour is yellow, those in Northumberland have in the main been painted in yellow and red stripes, those being the colours of the Northumberland county flag. This particular example is located next to the General Havelock pub.
