St. Helen's Church, Whitley Chapel - gravestone detail
The delicate motif carved at the top of the gravestone is of Lily of the Valley, Convallaria majalis. It is often seen on C19th grave stones, symbolizing purity, innocence, the return of happiness, and renewal, as it is one of the first flowers to bloom in the spring. http://callmetaphy.blogspot.co.uk/2011/08/lily-of-valley-tomb-stone-and-pips.html

Playground at Whitley Chapel
A notice describes this field as "Shireplay Play Area and Bike Track inspected for Hexhamshire Parish Council", but leaves several questions unanswered. Who or what is Shireplay? - presumably not the same as Shire Play Co Ltd based in Hereford. And where is the bike track? Visible in the shot is an imaginative collection of items of play equipment, with a football pitch beyond.
