Top of Summerhill Street
Summerhill was built in the mid 19th century as a development of middle class housing on the western edge of Newcastle. It near the top of Westgate Hill, and away from the crowded streets and industry of the town centre. This particular street was built in the 1850's.

The Church of St. Matthew, Big Lamp, Summerhill Street, NE4

Interior of St Matthew's, Big Lamp, Newcastle
Considered to be one of the finest Victorian churches in the region. It was shoe-horned into this built-up site between 1880 and 1905, and is almost square.
