Welcome to Hexham!
This grubby passage (an old ropewalk) leads from the M and S (formerly Co-op) car park through to Broadgate and the main shopping street, Priestpopple. What an appalling introduction to the town for visitors!

This corrugated iron building, at the back of Image, was built in 1886 as a Temperance Hall, intended to be a counter-attraction to the many pubs in Hexham. {Source: Hexham Local History Society leaflet "Victorian & Edwardian Hexham".}

Jubilee Buildings
According to the Hexham Local History Society leaflet "Victorian & Edwardian Hexham", in the 19th century there were many elongated courts containing tenements and other buildings running off the main streets in Hexham; many have been lost by later building on the site or by slum clearance. This court is almost opposite the HSBC Bank.
