Former Rutherford Street Printing Works from Bath Lane
Built around 1890 by Frank Rich for the Co-operative Wholesale Society with a huge domed tower with pagoda summit on the corner of Rutherford Street Image The building was refurbished in 1991-92 for the Hanahana Japanese Restaurant and offices, after spending many years empty.

The former Co-operative Wholesale Society Printing Works, Rutherford Street, NE1
Built c 1890, by Frank W Rich for the CWS. The enormous corner dome is topped by a pagoda-type lantern - see Image The brick walls with stone dressings pick up on classical features - but pediments over windows become plain red faience triangles, giant columns become plain brick piers with large blocks of stone inset, and circular windows are combined with keystones at four - and in one case eight - points of the compass. The building was refurbished in 1991-92 for the Japanese Hanahana restaurant and offices. The building is Grade II listed http://list.historicengland.org.uk/resultsingle.aspx?uid=1024803 .

Former Co-op printing works, Bath Lane, Newcastle
F.W. Rich, 1890, in characteristically full-throated mode. The prodigious dome is topped by a lantern, spire and finial (Image]). The dormers are worth a glance too. Grade II listed.
Now partly occupied by Bang and Olufsen, and Haha Hana, a Japanese restaurant, offices above.

Corner of Bath Lane and Rutherford Street
Newcastle Furniture Company occupies the building in the foreground.
On the right are the derelict premises once occupied by Henry Moat and Son. In 2018 that building will be demolished to make way for a 36 storey tower block to be known as Hadrian's Tower.
