130 volunteers provide here a vital lifeline of food, friendship and a future to the most disadvantaged, homeless and vulnerable in and around Newcastle. In 2014, the charitable organisation won the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, the equivalent of an MBE, and the highest honour it could achieve in its field.

'The People's Kitchen', Bath Lane, Newcastle upon Tyne
Founded by Alison Kay in 1985, 'The People's Kitchen' is a charity that offers friendship, food and futures to homeless and disadvantaged people. It is run entirely by volunteers who aim to make life on the streets a little easier by providing warm meals and essentials like clothing, sleeping bags and toiletries. It is a Registered Charity.
