Old railway bridge over the River Don near Brockley Whins
Boldon Colliery closed in the early 1980's and this branch line presumably died with it.

Metro train arriving at Brockley Whins
A Tyne & Wear Metro train arriving at Brockley Whins station. The station opened in 1844, was renamed Boldon Colliery in 1925 but reverted to its original name in 1991. Brockely Whins is now served by the Tyne & Wear Metro.
This image was taken on Good Friday in 2019. The station was busier than usual, as part of the Metro system was closed for engineering work. Trains from South Hylton and Sunderland were terminating here, with passengers being required to change to a replacement bus service to continue their journeys towards Gateshead and beyond.

Boldon Colliery Station
View eastward, towards Sunderland and Tyne Dock; ex-NER Newcastle - Sunderland - West Hartlepool - Stockton secondary main line, junction of line to Tyne Dock. Called 'Brockley Whins' until 1926, it regained that name on 30/9/91. On 31/3/02 it was rebuilt and taken over by the Tyne & Wear Metro when the latter extended to Sunderland.
