Beacon House, 1 Trinity Buildings, North Shields
Number 1 Trinity Buildings was built in 1727 as a lighthouse for Trinity House, Newcastle upon Tyne. It was later converted into almshouses, and now a private house. Eroded plaque between first and second floors commemorates conversion to almshouses after building of new High Light in 1807. In 1536 Henry VIII empowered Trinity House, Newcastle upon Tyne, to build two lighthouses at North Shields. By 1807 changes in the river bed made a new lighthouse necessary to mark the safe approach and the new High Light was built.

Nater's Bank, North Shields
These are one of a number of sets of stairs that connect the Fish Quay area with North Shields town centre. These particular stairs, which end their uphill journey close to the old High Light and Dockwray Square, visit along the way the Nater's Bank 'Seascape' artwork https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2200428. As can be seen from the signage attached to the adjoining lamp standard, the England Coast Path, National Cycle Route (NCR) 10 (connecting North Shields with Cockermouth) and National Cycle Route (NCR) 1 (connecting Dover with the Scottish Highlands) pass this way. This building was once home to Wm. Wright Ltd. https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/3583312, a speciality grocery store supplying food stuff to hundreds of fishing boats as well as local folk, for 90 years until it finally closed its doors in 2017. Prior to Wm. Wright Ltd. taking over the building, the site had housed the Highlander Hotel. After a massive renovation project, the premises reopened in its new guise in 2018.
