Chimney Mill, Claremont Road
Chimney Mill was designed by engineer, John Smeaton, in 1782 as a five sail windmill, in use until 1892, subsequently a golf club-house until 1975. The windshaft and cap were removed in 1951. It was subsequently restored starting in 1976.

Bringing up the rear
Green penned participants in the 2021 Great North Run start the final walk down to the starting line. A much more staggered start than usual on the changed course. That was almost 3 hours after the elite participants had started. They'd finished well over an hour by this time.
