Parked up for the weekend
Two class 37 locomotives parked up for the weekend on the depot. This depot is now shut. Its reason for existence was the movement of coal from local mines to the power station which has also closed along with all of the local mines. A couple of open cast sites still remain open but the coal movement is much reduced.

Engine & brakevan at Winning, near North Blyth
In 1965, coal is still being brought to the staithes at North Blyth, by trains worked by the surviving ex-NER 0-6-0s and 0-8-0s. Here ex-NER W. Worsdell class P3 (LNER J27) No. 65804 - one of the last surviving steam locomotives in the NE Area, is running with brakevan back to the collieries from the staithes: it was built in 8/1908 as No. 1007, became LNER No. 5804 in 1946 and survived until 7/67!
