To the left of the road is a freight-only railway line (part of the old Blyth and Tyne Railway network) which runs through to Morpeth. To the left again is a large modern housing estate.

Pedestrian level crossing, near Bedlington Station
The railway was part of a network of railways built primarily to serve the collieries of south-east Northumberland, under the general name of the Blyth and Tyne railway. The line has been closed for passenger traffic for many years but still carries freight. This branch links the network of lines to Morpeth at the northern end.
